Hurry No More

Can you finish this sentence for me?

“When I have                 , then I’ll be able to relax.”

What I’m getting at is, what are you actually chasing?

I used to feel like I was always chasing something - rushing and running everywhere.

To the subway, to appointments, to client meetings, to brunch with friends, even to yoga.

I was always trying to squeeze out the last minute of things - which of course, I later learned was a conditioned stress response.

And during my time in the advertising world, I felt this to my core. Feeling like I was on a treadmill racing through every single day!

It went on like this for years until one day I was running through the streets of NYC trying to meet up with my family for a boat tour. I couldn’t find the right dock and I felt so flustered and anxious with my heart beating, face red and as I stepped on the boat, I realized that was the moment I was going to STOP RUNNING!

I had overbooked, overscheduled, and overwhelmed my life to the point that my nervous system was shot.

Does this resonate with you too?

If you’re nodding your head wildly, here’s an exercise that can help you feel more grounded today

Create 5 minutes of space for you today to slow way down. Actual real time and space - to feel whatever it is you’re feeling. You can…

Get out a journal and write (stream of consciousness) for 5 minutes.
Sit for 5 minutes and meditate with a calming song.
Voice record yourself talking for 5 minutes about how you really feel. Remember this is just for you so be honest and say what needs to be said.

The only thing I’ll add is to be kind to yourself in this process and not judge yourself in this zone.

I’d love for you to share with me how you plan to honor your nervous system this week and if you have a friend who could benefit from this, feel free to forward to them too!

With and gratitude,
Jennifer

P.S. This kind of space is exactly what we create inside The Drop In Community. If you’ve been curious about what it would look like to start your week from a place of ease instead of hustle, I invite you to join us next Monday.

And if you didn’t know yet, you’ll get 2 weeks as a FREE trial to feel into this space, because I believe in feeling into something for yourself! Hope to see you on Monday.
