Abundance Vs. Scarcity

I’ve been having this conversation too many times with clients this week to not share with you too. The question I've been hearing lately is: "how do I tap into more abundance?"

I'll answer that with some potent action steps below, but before I go there, I'll tell you why this convo is relevant right now.

Summer energy is rooted in the feelings of abundance, expansion and opportunity. Naturally, if you want more of this energy in your life, this is the season to tap into this mindset. 

But we also know it’s the time of year where your life can feel extra full with plans, vacations, kids out of school (if you have littles) and more and more decisions to make. So it would make sense if you're feeling both abundance and scarcity in full force right now. 

So let’s break it down a bit:

An abundant mindset is… when you see everything as a learning opportunity.
A scarcity mindset is…when you see everything as out to get you. 

An abundant mindset is… saying wow, that’s amazing!
A scarcity mindset is… saying well, that would have been better if only it was different. 

An abundant mindset is… relaxed.
A scarcity mindset is… gripping.

An abundant mindset is… there is always more, I am taken care of.
A scarcity mindset is… there isn’t enough, and eek, if I have enough I should feel guilty about it.

If any of these were things you’ve thought, on either the abundance or the scarcity, that’s expected. As it's actually common for highly driven people to pendulate between extremes of both scarcity and abundance. 

I’ll explain more. 

Let's take a major job promotion for example. Say you get this role leading a new team and immediately feel, wow, I’m so excited and this is exactly what I’ve worked hard for, I'm making more money than I ever have, my life is expansive and I’m making major moves. Damn, my life is beyond amazing... (abundance). To suddenly thinking, oh shit I’m now actually making more money, they’ll expect more from me, I can’t do this job, what did I get myself into! (scarcity)

If you’ve had your own version of this convo around your job, your relationships, your finances, your food choices or your relationship to yourself, I’m here to say it doesn’t have to feel like these major highs and lows.  

Here’s 3 ways to cultivate more of an abundant mindset more of the time:

  1. Talk Kindly To Yourself:
    Self talk matters more than you think. So when you find yourself being hard on yourself or in scarcity mode, pause, take a breath (and don’t skip that step), put your hand on your body and then talk to yourself for the next minute like you were your own best friend.

  2. Take Your Abundance Inventory:
    You probably have a lot of amazing things happening in your life right here and now. But I imagine you see the things you dislike more. Everyday this week, write down at least 3 things that feel expansive, fun, joyful or abundant in your life right now. When you do this regularly, you’ll suddenly start to attune yourself to calling in more abundance in all nooks and crannies of your world.

  3. Create Your Abundance Mantra:
    You’ve heard of the power of your thoughts, well this is the power of your words. What we say becomes our beliefs, so choose a mantra that supports your desire for more abundance, such as, “I have everything I need today to create what I desire.” or “ I am open and receptive to abundance.”
