TIME isn't what's holding you back!

Last week, I shared something on my IG that really resonated with a lot of people, it said:

Time isn’t the main reason holding you back from self-care. What’s really holding you back is your nervous system never fully learned how to receive!

The response was a whole lot of love, I assume because this message touches on a key truth.

We often believe that time is the most precious, scarce commodity we’ll never get back. While that might be true, it’s not the main reason many women struggle to create space for themselves. Even when it seems like time is the issue, when life is busier than busy, and you genuinely have no time for yourself, there's something deeper at play.

What’s really holding you back is that your nervous system never fully learned how to receive.

Yes, let that sink in for a moment.

Over the years, women have shared with me their real and personal reasons for struggling with self care. Here’s a few to note:

"People constantly rely on me, I don’t even want to show you how many emails I get.""I have people to take care of and unfortunately, my partner can’t take care of things like I can.""I feel guilty taking any time for myself.""I’m the one everyone goes to in my world, I can’t let them down.""I honestly just feel selfish taking self care!""People have it so much worse than me. I should feel lucky with what I have in my life."

Have you ever said any of these to yourself?

Beneath all of these reasons is the main message we’ve been fed as women…that YOU need to DO IT ALL to HAVE IT ALL.

If you find it difficult to ask for support, to receive help, and to take space for yourself, it’s time to recognize that this is not just about time management. It’s about rewiring your nervous system to allow yourselves to truly feel the gift of receiving.

As you probably know, our nervous system is designed to protect us and sometimes that means keeping us stuck in familiar patterns, even if those patterns are draining. For many women, receiving help, kindness, or even time for ourselves, can certainly feel unfamiliar. It’s as if our nervous system has been trained to reject anything that isn’t about giving, doing, or fixing.

But what if you could retrain your nervous system to learn to receive? To understand that it’s not only okay to accept support, but that it’s actually essential for your own well-being?

This is about more than just saying “yes” to help when it’s offered. It’s about a deep, internal shift where your body and mind learn to trust the act of receiving. It’s about allowing yourself to be cared for and to let go of the guilt that often accompanies self care.

Imagine how different your life could feel if you could let go of the constant need to be everything for everyone and instead embrace the support that’s available to you. What if your nervous system could learn to relax, trust, and receive with ease?

It’s a journey, but one worth starting.

I figure now’s as good a time as any to mention the epic one day retreat that I’m co-leading with the badass wellness coach, nutritionist and trainer Natasha Forrest. It’s all going down Sat Oct 26th in NYC.

Consider yourself personally invited to a day to reconnect, refocus and rejuvenate and embrace a new paradigm of self care!
