The Tension Of Spring

There’s something about Spring that no one really talks about.

You probably already know that Spring energy is a time for reemerging, recreating, reconnecting. It’s a time for allowing ideas to bud and to create something new. It’s a sweet and beautiful energy and nature’s idea of a fresh start.

But there’s another side to this Spring energy, especially if you consider yourself a high achiever.

It’s the unspoken angst underneath all that new energy that says, “it’s time…”
And in the exact same breath, you might be asking, “but what exactly is it time for?”

I remember this feeling so clearly when I was working as a creative in advertising. Every Spring, like clockwork, I would feel a tension or tight inner push that it was time to move on. Time to grow, to expand, to do something different or at least move onto a different agency.

And when someone would announce they were “moving on,” I would feel a rush of jealousy wondering how they figured it all out.

Instead of feeling curious and excited about the possibilities of what could be, I often felt frustrated because I didn’t know what I was moving toward and I wasn’t going to leave something shiny and stable if I wasn’t 100% certain what I wanted. So instead of moving on, I stayed put, right where I was with that inner tension building of wanting MORE but no idea how to get it.

What I didn’t have was clarity.
Clarity of what I wanted,
Clarity of where I wanted to go.
And even when I had tiny glimpses of that clarity, I certainly didn’t know how to get there.

So I would sit in that in between space.
Knowing it was time, but not knowing what was next…for me.

The last two weeks I’ve been hearing versions of this from many clients. Sharing a feeling of an inner heart pull, knowing that something’s ready to shift, but major resistance and stuckness of not knowing where to go. And on top of it, fear of completely blowing up their life or making a wrong choice!

If this feels like anything like you too, I want to normalize this. Because it’s actually part of this season’s energy too.

Spring isn’t just about clarity and momentum. It’s also the moment where you become aware that you’re ready for something different, way before you fully know what that something is.

If you feel the tension, it’s actually not a sign you’re off track, it’s often a sign that something is waking up in you!

Instead of trying to rush to an answer or force a plan, what if you asked yourself the deeper questions this time around…

  • Where do I feel the strongest sense that something needs to change?

  • What am I craving more of right now, even if I don’t fully know what it looks like?

  • What’s one small step I could take to explore what might be next, without needing full clarity?

You don’t have to have the full picture yet!

You just have to be willing to acknowledge that something is shifting. From there, you can begin to move, and you might even go somewhere you weren’t expecting this time around!

With and gratitude,
Jennifer
