An Intention of Connection

As I was contemplating writing today’s love letter, I was having trouble finding the “right” words. The heaviness of this week’s events was on my heart and I felt called to acknowledge them in a different way than planned. Admittedly I wrote a few drafts, all from my headspace until stopping myself and asking what does my heart want to say?

With the guilty verdict this week of Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd, there was little relief as news continues to reveal black people and children killed in this country by the police. With a system deeply rooted with systemic racism, there’s a call for it to be greatly uprooted and rebuilt.

I was scrolling through social media with a touch of obsession this week, looking for answers, searching for something more. I shared this with a teacher of mine and what she offered is that perhaps I was looking for connection. In this time where injustice is palpable in the air, not to mention we’re still living within a pandemic, it’s completely normal to be feeling a lot. If you’re feeling a heaviness, I offer for you to pause, acknowledge it and create an intention of connection. Maybe it’s calling a dear friend and sharing what’s on your heart or writing your thoughts and feelings in a personal journal or taking action in a way that feels aligned for you.

Please know that you’re not alone and oftentimes when we share our feelings with the intention of connection, it gives others loving permission to unabashedly share theirs as well.

Along with being a coach, I am also a listening ear. If you’re feeling a lot and want a non-judgmental safe space to be seen and heard, please feel free to reach out. I’m here, like we all are, for connection.

Quote of the week
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
— Brené Brown

With ♡ and gratitude,
